What we Do

Project Description: REAP supports motivated young South Africans from disadvantaged rural households in accessing higher education, graduating successfully, sustaining themselves, and contributing to society. REAP achieves this through a comprehensive model that includes career guidance, basic IT skills training, top-up bursaries (supplementing NSFAS), holistic psychosocial support, academic monitoring, and life skills training.

Key programme components include:

• The deployment of Student Development Advisors (SDAs) who provide one-on-one and group support on academic progress, financial management, personal growth, and emotional well-being.
• Allocation of psycho-social support, and a laptop computer.
• First-year students are matched with trained peer buddies for campus orientation and encouragement. Students must also attend targeted life skills workshops and complete annual community service.
• The organisation has strong institutional relationships with universities and TVET colleges which enables streamlined support and effective advocacy for student needs.
• As students’ progress, the focus shifts towards employability skills, professional readiness, and financial independence.

Project Description: The Field Band Foundation provides after-school training in music, performance, and life skills for young people in under-resourced areas. Services provided by the band in Daniëlskuil include, but not limited to four rehearsals of 2 hours each after school, namely: provision of musical instruments, life skills activities implemented within each rehearsal, and ongoing training for both tutors-in-training and the band tutors.

Programme Reach:

• Over the past 28 years, FBF has reached more than 40 000 children, with an average of 3 000 black African youth participating annually in its programmes across under-resourced areas of South Africa.
• Using large-scale marching bands featuring brass and percussion instruments, the Foundation provides structured, mobile, and accessible music education that fosters confidence, discipline, teamwork, and personal growth.

Project Description: In partnership with the Lesedi Solar Trust, PHT funds the Grow Great Champion Programme. The program seeks to reduce the high rates of nutritional stunting in children under five in the Daniëlskuil and Postmasburg communities by focusing on the first 1,000 days of life, which is a critical period from conception to a child’s second birthday. This program complements existing efforts (like DGMT Flourish) by addressing gaps in post-natal care, home-based health services, and community health worker (CHW) capacity.

Grow Great works to end childhood stunting by:

• Walking with mothers through pregnancy and their baby’s early months.
• Equipping community health workers to spot and prevent stunting early.
• Rallying government, business and civil society to invest in zero stunting.

Project Description: Khulisa Social Solutions offers a capacitation program to Community-Based Organisations (CBOs) in Postmasburg and Danielskuil, namely, Tsantsabane Skills Development Centre, Blessed is the Hand that Gives, Saving Lives Daniëlskuil, and Kgatelopele Youth Forum. This program covers governance, project set-up, sustainability, community asset mapping, fundraising, project implementation, monitoring and evaluation, and communication. The training and mentorship are conducted virtually and in person, providing flexibility and accessibility to participants.

The overarching purpose of this program is to equip grassroots organisations with the skills and knowledge necessary to implement sustainable projects that will have a lasting impact on their communities, ensuring that these initiatives outlive the Trust itself.

Project Description: Tsantsabane Skills Development was founded out of deep concern for the well-being of young people in Tsantsabane, who are disproportionately affected by drug abuse, teenage pregnancy, and alcohol abuse. Recognising the urgent need for supportive programs that foster artistic skills development, the organisation is dedicated to creating a safer, more inclusive environment that builds resilience and helps young people realise their full potential.

Tsantsabane Skills Development is a community-based non-profit organisation established in 2020, dedicated to addressing the critical need for artistic skills development and empowerment within the Tsantsabane community. Since its inception, the organisation has become an essential and trusted entity, delivering programs that significantly improve the lives of its beneficiaries. The mission is to empower individuals through comprehensive artistic skills development programs.

Tsantsabane Skills Development offers the following programmes:

• Cultural dance program.
• Gumboot dance program.
• Netball program.
• Revision Program (for school children).

Project Description: Blessed is the Hand that Gives (BITHTG) is a community-centred NPO founded in 2015 and based in Postmasburg, Northern Cape. Initially established as a soup kitchen to combat hunger in the informal settlements of Maranteng and Mountain View, the organisation has since expanded to address more extensive community challenges such as youth development, economic empowerment, substance abuse, and gender-based violence.        

The organisation has expanded to include the following programmes;  

• Therapeutic Haptic Development: Offering workshops in arts, crafts, and tactile activities like sewing, pottery, and jewellery-making to support psychosocial healing and equip participants with new skills.
• Skills-Based Economic Empowerment: Providing vocational skills training in crafts like weaving, woodwork, and textile arts, allowing participants to create products for local and regional markets. This initiative will contribute to income generation and economic self-sufficiency.
• Support Group Networks: Establishing support groups to foster emotional resilience and address community-specific needs, facilitated by trained volunteers.

The project was born out of a need to address the infrastructural condition of an ECD Centre in the community, and it was finally built in partnership with Jasper Power Company. The centre is operated and run by Phuthanang ECD Centre.

The Phuthanang  ECD Centre from Daniëlskuil was an already existing ECD centre that operated in a garage and was relocated to the new, well-equipped ECD Centre.
